Chandrika's Personal Journey and Motivation:
I was drawn to Heptathlon because it embodies versatility, a challenge where I could push myself across multiple disciplines. It’s not just about being fast or strong—it’s about mastering different skills, which keeps me engaged and always striving for improvement. Growing up, I loved competing in different athletic events, and the Heptathlon gave me the platform to combine that passion.
The journey hasn’t always been easy. Training for seven events requires a lot of dedication, time, and effort. One of the significant challenges I faced was managing injuries and fatigue while maintaining peak performance in all events. Another difficulty has been balancing my academic life with the intensive demands of training. Overcoming these hurdles taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of recovery and self-care.
To me, Heptathlon is more than a sport. Personally, it’s a test of my limits and ability to adapt and grow. Professionally, it’s a gateway to achieving greater things in athletics, inspiring others, and maybe even representing my country on a global stage.
Achievements and Goals:
Some of my key achievements include participating in the Khelo India University Games where I earned points and ranked among the top athletes. I also competed in the 38th National Junior Athletics Championships under the U20 category. These events have been pivotal in building my experience and confidence.
In the short term, my goal is to improve my personal best in each of the Heptathlon events and compete at national and international competitions with stronger performances. My long-term goal is to represent India in international competitions such as the Asian Games or the Olympics. I aim to improve my consistency and make significant strides in my weaker events over the next few years.
Funding Needs and Impact:
My current financial needs are centered around better training facilities, specialized coaching, and equipment. The Heptathlon requires access to various training tools for running, jumping, and throwing events, and financial support would allow me to access these resources without constraint.
The support from Rohi Foundation would enable me to train more effectively, improve my technique, and participate in more competitions. It would cover essential expenses like coaching, travel, equipment, and recovery services.
A major obstacle I face is the lack of consistent funding for travel to competitions, which often limits the opportunities I have to compete and improve.
Plans and Vision:
I plan to allocate any funds I receive towards essential needs such as high-quality coaching, travel for competitions, and purchasing necessary equipment for all seven events. Recovery and nutrition are also crucial aspects that require investment for optimal performance.
Beyond this crowdfunding campaign, I’m exploring potential sponsorships and collaborations that could sustain my training. I also plan to keep my supporters updated on my progress through regular updates on social media and personal messages.
Social Responsibility and Values:
I want to convey a message of perseverance and hard work to those who support me. Through their help, I hope to achieve my goals and inspire young athletes, especially girls, to take up sports seriously.
In the future, I see myself mentoring young athletes, sharing my experiences, and helping them navigate the challenges I’ve faced. Through my journey in Heptathlon, I want to make a broader impact by promoting sports in my community and encouraging a healthier, more active lifestyle among the youth.
